The House of the Assembly was formed, giving some measure of internal self government.
1815
Hamilton becomes the capital city.
1834
Abolition of slavery.
1944
Women's suffrage granted.
1963
Establishment of the first political party.
1963
New constitution brings ministerial government and first general election under universal adult suffrage.
1995
Bermudians reject independence in referendum vote.
1997
Pamela Gordon is elected Premier, becoming the first woman to hold the position.
1998
The November General Election results in the election of the Progressive Labour Party for the first time in Bermuda's history of two-party politics.
2003
PLP is re-elected with Alex Scott as Premier.
2006
Dr. Ewart Brown elected as PLP leader and Premier.
2007
PLP elected for 3rd term.
2010
Paula Cox elected as PLP leader and Premier.
2012
One Bermuda Alliance wins Bermuda General Election and forms new government. Craig Cannonier appointed as Premier.
2014
Michael Dunkley sworn in as Premier of Bermuda.
2016
Bermuda hosts the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series.
2017
Bermuda hosts The America’s Cup.
